When the child makes a match, whether it is real (both the halves of the same animal) or silly (front of one animal and back of another), he/she is rewarded with a song. The song is quite catchy; we even sing it on long car trips..."You put the pig in front and the cow behind...put them together and what do you find? A cow-pig! That's silly!" The frog button at the top plays children's standards (no singing), such as Skip to My Lou, She'll be Coming 'Round the Mountain When She Comes, etc. My son, now almost six, received this gift when he was born and we broke it out of its packaging when he was approximately 10 months. My daughter, now 19-months-old, just "discovered" the fridge farm and is semi-obsessed. She loves to make a match and seems to understand that putting the "pink pig" in front and "orange horse" in back will net her a silly song. Every time she makes a mismatch, she dances around and joins in when the lady sings, "That's silly!" As a side note, my son enjoys helping his little sister make correct matches, as well as silly matches, with this toy. I have given this toy numerous times for 1-year-old birthday children and always hear back from the parents that it is a favorite. For the price, you can't go wrong. |

Well made, holds up to being the best friend of a two-year old very well. He holds his color nicely through many washes. The stitching - despite the washing, night time cuddles, and playing at the park with my son, has shown no signs of wear at all. He buckles quite nicely in the car next to the car seat too lol!! He is soft all over, and the long arms make it easy for my son to drag him everywhere. We calls ours "Rupert" and he has become a very important part of my sons days and nights. He even went for his own hair cut, and sat in the chair next to my son! As far as the lack of moving parts, flashing lights, and actions sounds - no problem there. The simple design makes for important imaginative play skills, and lends itself to be whatever my sons wants this toy to be. There are no limitations to what Rupert can do and be for my son. |

I had originally overlooked the Lego Toy Story Army Men on Patrol set, thinking the army men wouldn't be that interesting to my son (even though he loves Toy Story and Lego). His grandmother bought him the set though, and I must say I'm surprised at how much he is enjoying it. The set comes with a jeep and four soldiers with various accessories. Complexity: This is a really basic set, so it took little time to assemble. There are enough tiny parts to frustrate younger builders like my son, but he had fun assembling the army men. Playability: This is just a fun set all around. With the variety of army men - soldiers, medic, mine sweeper - and the accessories you can have all sorts of adventures. And since the soldiers' feet aren't stuck to the bases you can substitute a few yellow minifigure heads and incorporate the set into the Lego City theme. The Lego Toy Story Army Men on Patrol set was a pleasant surprise. It works in the Toy Story context, and is a lot of fun as a stand-alone set. |
