Features : Dual rails for stability Bevels 45 degrees left and right for versatility Miters 0 to 47 degrees left, and 0 to 52 degrees right Adjustable sliding fence supports larger stock 13-amp motor with soft start for smooth performance
Description : Riding on a horizontal double-rail system, Makita's 10-inch dual sliding compound miter saw is one smooth operator. Both rails are self-cleaning and slide on linear ball bearings. The horizontal rail design also seems to give this saw some extra stability, a feature we appreciate, especially in a saw that bevels to 45 degrees both ways. Makita's saw has a vertical grip design with a thumb-activated safety switch and a paddle trigger, and while the vertical design might be slightly less ergonomic than the horizontal D-handle, it does allow you to use the saw comfortably with either hand. Plus, the paddle grip makes squeezing the trigger easy no matter how you're holding the handle.

The saw crosscuts a two-by-twelve at 90 degrees and also has the depth capacity to cut four-by-four material--a feature deck builders, in particular, demand. The saw's table is large, too, giving you plenty of workspace for making wider crosscuts. The saw's nine positive stops make it easy to lock in common miters. The miter lock on this saw has a screw handle that is a little more time-consuming than recently popular cam-lock design. We really like the soft start and electric brake, however; they're user-friendly features that make a big difference, especially when a job requires a lot of constant, repetitive cuts. The pivot fence adjusts for supporting large stock and flips back for bevel cuts. The saw also has a well-designed work clamp that lets you make precision cuts on small pieces without having to get your fingers too close to the blade. Like most sliders, this saw features a depth-stop mechanism in case you have to make a few quick dado cuts on a job site. And, for home shop users, this saw also gives you the added option of a release safety button that pulls out and locks the saw off. --Jon Groebner

4.48 63 4 very, very picky I own the LS1013 and it is a great saw. I'm a carpenter and furniture builder with strict tolerances. Out of the box, my saw was set up with no needed adjustments. The angles were dead on, with minimal runout. A couple of bothersome points; the blade guard can get in the way when sliding inwards cutting mouldings and base, also the stops do have some play in them. The dust bag is pretty worthless in my opinion. I like how it has a stop at 31.6 for cutting crown moulding. Many don't offer this feature. The LS1013 slides effortlessly, the soft start is great and doesn't kick hard when you release the trigger. The blade is excellent (makita makes great blades). A friend of mine is a chairmaker who often writes articles for fine woodworking magazine. He also owns an LS1013. Great saw for the money, and haven't had any problems yet. If your looking for an accurate dual bevel sliding saw for $500 this is the best 10" saw on the market. 5 Best Tool In The Shop! I have been woodworking for the past 25 years and have a substantial investment in tools. I've used an 8.5" SCMS for 10 years and spent the past year shopping all the new larger sliders on the market. My purchase of the Makita LS1013 was based on precision, quality, ergonomics and value. Of the 30+ top brand power tools in my shop, the 1013 has it all! The one word that comes to mind is "SMOOTH"! The glide of the sliding rails, the ease of the miter table swing and bevel adjustment, the solidity of the saw head and blade guard in the cut and the smooth but powerful and quiet motor all give the feeling of a machine with precision and finesse. Don't get me wrong. This tool is solid and very well built. I know it will last for many years to come. The miter and bevel settings were square right out of the box and the blade run out was a negligible .001". I was ready to purchase a Forrest Chopmaster blade but found the stock 64-tooth carbide blade gave a "glass-like" finished edge with no tear-out on several types of wood. The supplied accessories and the add on accessories are great and give the saw the features to perform all the task I'll ever need. Overall, the saw "feels" right. A lot of thought must have gone into the design and final production of this unit and in my opinion, there's not really any competition out there in the SCMS market!! Although I haven't yet performed any crown molding projects with it, I'm confident that it will be up to the task. Makita has a real winner here. It'll be hard to better it in the future! 4 If I had a second chance ... I just got the Hitachi C10FSH a week ago, everything is good ecept the noise. I don't know what went wrong in design process,
this saw is only 12amp but the noise is much louder than the DeWALT 708 and MAKITA LS1212 they are both 15amp. My ex boss have 2 MAKITAS they works really good. I stopped at the local store to take a close look at the MAKITA LS1013, it is a good saw,it has everything the Hitachi does, it is Made in America. You'll get a 14.4-volt cordless drill/driver kit free after mail-in rebate when you purchase this miter saw. The reason I didn't give it a 5 star rate because it isn't belt drive which the other reviewer said that the motor touch the work piece when you make right bevel, I don't know it is true or not, you'd better take a look yourself. If I had a second chance , this saw would be my choice.

Description : To be honest, we looked twice at the price, certain the folks at Amazon had made a mistake. But sure enough, they're right--and so is the price. Porter-Cable makes some of the best pneumatic tools in the industry, and these nailers are two prime examples. The 16-gauge is sturdy, compact, lighter and quieter than you'd expect with a grip even smaller hands can get around. Great balance, easy depth-of-drive adjustment, and a pleasure to use. Similarly, the 18-gauge is light but rugged, comfortable and maneuverable, even in awkward places or after long runs. Some other features we like: a special hardened driver blade, a sequential fire trigger, a visual reload indicator, a safety located behind the driver guide for driving brads in tight spaces and an easy-to-adjust depth guide. Both guns have directional exhausts, too. The pancake-style compressor has a six-gallon tank and easily runs both guns at the same time. It's light, portable and doesn't want much from you in terms of maintenance--it's oil-free and Teflon-coated. Some other reasons to like it: a high-flow regulator, an easy-to-read air pressure gauge, automatic thermal overload protection, an industrial-style quick-connect body in the air outlet, and a long-life motor with replaceable brushes. We can't imagine this deal will be around forever.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste

4.88 26 5 Porter Cable compressor/nailer combo kit Although I didn't buy this item from Amazon, I got the very same deal from a local retailer but didn't have to wait for it to ship. The compressor is a bit quieter than I expected, a nice surprise. Everything you need to get started with this combo pack is included - air hose, fittings, and even a roll of teflon tape comes with it - nice attention to detail. The brad and finish nailers have both operated flawlessly thus far. They won't see heavy use but I went out and bought a couple of different sizes of brads and nails to go with the guns even though each comes with 1000 fasteners of the largest size. Obviously, the air compressor will have a multitude of uses around the garage/shop when you aren't using the nailers. If you're the occasional handyman or hobbyist, you can't go wrong with this combo. 5 Words cannot do this combo justice This is by FAR the best value nailer/compressor combo deal out there. I finally caved in and decided to buy a nailer kit and after I used it for 30 seconds I thought to myself "why didn't I do this sooner????" Trust me...you will say the same thing.

The compressor is great for nailing, and the two guns give you a lot of versatility if you know how to use them. The brad nailer is great for delicate projects, and the finish nailer makes it a treat to put up trim. The range of acceptable lengths for the finish nailer gives you a lot of flexibility.

The compressor is easy to carry and going from room-to-room is a breeze. The compressor is loud, but so is a miter saw. This is the sacrifice of having an oil-free unit that is highly portable. And if you're like me, garage space is at a premium and this unit tucks underneath my workbench nicely.

And to top it all of....it's a Porter Cable. The Amazon product description is right - I also checked the price twice and could not believe what I was seeing!! Competitors want $279 and up for a compressor and one finishing gun (no brad nailer!!)!! I cannot think of a better value in all of Amazon's Tool Crib. You will not be disappointed. 5 Should have bought it long ago!! WAY COOL! What else can I say. Should have bought it long ago, but thought I could get by with a hammer and a nail set. Change is tough. Buy it!!!

Features : Variable speed Plunge/Fixed bases Soft start Constant response circuitry Microfine depth adjustment
Description : Bosch's 1617EVSPK is a strong entry in the 2-1/4-horsepower combination router market. Solid, all-magnesium construction makes the Bosch durable and lightweight, while special touches, such as wooden handles on the fixed base and contoured, soft-grip handles on the plunge base, add to the comfort of users and give the tool a look of distinction lacking in some of its competitors. Of course, looks are only skin deep, and this router has plenty to offer below the surface as well. At its heart, a powerful 12 amp, 2-1/4-horsepower motor delivers consistent results at variable speeds of 8,000 to 25,000 rpm. The exclusive precision centering design ensures bits are perfectly centered in the router base, a handy feature for maintaining accurate cut lines. A wider-than-average base opening provides superior visibility and allows the Bosch to accept larger bits, while a micro bit-depth adjustment system makes fine-tuning fast and easy. Unlike many comparable routers, the Bosch 1617EVSPK is designed to move from base to base without the use of tools. Instead, it clamps solidly into place for quick and easy transfers. What's more, the motor never rotates while adjusting depths, allowing you to stow the power cord on either side where it's out of the way. --Carl Thress

4.35 54 5 You'll love this combo kit Bosch 1617EVSPK 2HP If you were looking at getting a combo kit now is your chance to get a 2 HP unit instead of the 1.5 HP units. The softstart and self center bits work great both as a plunge router as well as a fixed base and the 2 HP soft start and mag body makes it easy to control as well as light weight.

The 2 HP unit has plenty of power to be used in a router table a nd if you can only afford one router don't skimp for a few dollars more you get more power, variable speed and the bosch 2 HP variable speed router with the micro fine adjustments.

I have had the 1617EVS fixed based for over 6 months and the extra cost to buy the plunge router attachment added up to more than this whole kit with the storage case costs. 5 Been using this router for a year now... I've been using this router for a year now and I'm very happy with it. I bought the router table mount so I can easily move it from fixed base, to plunge base, to router table.

I've Had a few weird problems with the switch not working but I just blew out the unit with air and it worked again. This seems to an issue when it's in the router table. When I'm free handing it, it has never happened.

Over all - Watch the micro adjustment, sometimes when you clamp it back into the base, it will occassionaly move slightly. But then again, that's why we do test cuts. Usually it doesn't move and really helps to fine tune the depth. The variable speed really helps you tune the cut to the material. I find when I get burning, I just slow the router down a little. If I'm getting chip out, I speed it up

Fixed Base - The nice Maple (I think) handles feel good in your hands. Also the unit isn't too top heavy so it's easy to balance.

Plunge base - Handles feel good in your hands. Plunge mechanism is easy to reach. The plunge depth setting works well and the the pluge depth turret helps you make smaller, more controlled passes.

Overall, I like and would recommend it. 3 Could be better made Purchased this router kit after reading many of the reviews. Thought it was the greatest thing until I built a jig to plow out a bunch of dados for some cabinets I was building on site. I found out that the sub base is NOT centered to the center of the bit. The jig I built is just a phenolic plastic base with a straight edge glued to the top for a guide. That way you just line up the edge to the reference line and start routing dados. Well, I cut the edge with my undersized bit for plywood bit to size up the jig and clamped it on and started cutting. But when I turned the router around and started cutting in the opposite direction, my bit started to resize my jig. It was off by about 1/16". Needless to say, I went back the the building supply store where I bought this thing, and all of their other Bosch routers were just about as far off center. Thankfully they allowed me to return it and I got my money back. Then I went directly to Tool Crib, ordered a Porter Cable 892, and the first thing I did was check for center. It was right on, and the manual even says that the subbase can be adjusted for center. I never had a problem with my PC 691, and should have stayed with PC. Think I'll get the 895PK next so I can have a router permanently dedicated to my router table. Bosch, you make a lot of top rated tools, but I don't think this is one of them.

03 March 04
Just found out that there's an optional centering guide to center the sub base properly. Hat's off to Bosch for this, but why is it optional? Something like this should be standard equipment.

Features : Two 3.5 amp Ni-MH battery packs for longer run time Delivers 390 in./lbs. of torque 1/2-inch keyless chuck offers big-bit capacity 55-minute charge saves time Compact and lightweight for all-day use
Description : Impressively compact, lightweight, and comfortable to use, Panasonic's 15.6-volt drill/driver fits into tight spaces where other bulkier drills won't. The 3-1/2 amp NiMH batteries deliver remarkable run time per charge, which is a big plus, especially if you need a tool for continuous use. What about power? This Panasonic packs up to 390 inch-pounds of torque--as much (if not more) than anyone needs in a cordless tool. The motor's speed control allows full torque at any speed, so you can apply full torque while still maintaining control. The tool features dual speed ranges of 65 to 450 and 200 to 1,450 rpm. The 1/2-inch chuck takes bigger bits. The first thing you notice about this tool, however, is how compact it is (the chassis measures only 8-1/2 inches) and how comfortable it feels in your hand. The soft-pad grip provides extra cushion and the tool's balance is superb, two important features if you wield a cordless day in and day out. The tool lacks an onboard bit holder, but that's about all it lacks. The 3-1/2 amp batteries are ventilated, so they last longer, delivering up to 1,200 charges and recharges. This drill is a smart buy for plumbers, electricians, carpenters, and even woodworkers--in short, anyone who wants a small, compact drill that packs a lot of torque and is built to last. The package includes a 55-minute universal charger and hard-plastic carrying case. --Jon Groebner

4.22 27 4 Good drill, although expensive Panasonic makes great cordless drills/drivers. They are well designed and last a long time. Probably the best 2 things about them is the flawless chuck design (holds even the smallest of bits in place without coming loose), and the long 3.5Ah runtime batteries. That said, they are more expensive than other brands.

I ended up with a Makita 14.4v. It was a much better value for the money especially because as of this writing, Makita is offering some attractive rebates. Also I liked the feel and balance of Makita better. The Panasonic has a huge and heavy battery while the Makita's battery is lighter (but probably doesn't last quite as long). Subsequently, the Panasonic felt like a brick was attached to the handle. Also, the case that comes with the Makita is much better-more sturdy and better designed (although larger) than Panasonic's cheapy case. Further, the Panasonic battery charger is much larger than the Makita one.

This kit comes complete with the drill, a black plastic hard case, 2 batteries and charger. 5 The Best Kept Secret in Cordless Drills I've owned or used a lot of cordless drills, from Black and Decker (ugh), Porter Cable, DeWalt, Milwaulkee, Makita and others, but I'd never heard of the Panasonic until a friend who does a lot of decks introduced me to it. He was using the earlier 12 volt model, but everything I discovered in using that drill applies to this one as well.

Panasonic isn't thought of as a power tool company, but their cordless drills are the best I've ever used, bar none. They've got the fastest recharge rate- 15 minutes- and that translates to more time drilling and less time recharging. It also translates to longer battery life; the less time spent charging, the less the heat buildup, and that's what kills these batteries. I know my friend has been using his on a daily basis for over five years with the original battery. The Panasonic drills also seem to get more useful drilling out of a single charge, something that recent tests by one magazine confirm.

My current 1/2" Makita is still going strong, but if it should happen to give up the ghost, I'm replacing it with a Panasonic. 5 Highly Recommended One of the top tools I have ever purchased. Runs like a sewing machine. Plently of power, it has never stalled out, and I have been using it for over one year. The chuck is excellent. The drill is light weight and easy to hold over long periods of time.

Features : Bevels 45 degree left or right with ability to bevel to 48 degrees Miters 50 degrees to the left and 60 degrees to the right Dual vertical rails offer better view of stainless-steel miter scale Horizontal handle for easier operation 11 positive stops for quick setup of common cut angles
Description : DeWalt packs it all into this 12-inch compound miter saw: the big blade, the double bevel, the double rail slide. Very impressive. Finish carpenters who want to miter crown molding (up to 5-1/4 inches) vertically and framers who demand a 12-inch crosscut capacity will love this saw's 12-inch blade. The double bevel, of course, means you flip the saw instead of the wood, a great feature for those working with long molding or in confined spaces. The saw bevels to 45 degrees both ways and has the ability to bevel up to 48 if the need arises. The double rail slide is definitely burlier than the old single rail design. Both rails slide on self-cleaning, dust-sealed bearings, too.

What really gets us is the weight and balance of this saw: it slides smoothly through cuts, bevels are easy to set, and the miter gauge swivels lightly (all of which speak to the saw's excellent design). You can miter 50 degrees left, 60 degrees right. We also appreciated the cam-lock miter gauge on this saw--the handle simply clamps down, which makes switching angles noticeably quicker than with a twist-lock miter.

DeWalt's D-handle is designed for right-handed use, but the trigger is big enough to use comfortably with your left hand if a particular cut requires it. The saw also has a depth-stop adjuster in case you have to cut a quick dado or two at the job site. The easy-to-read stainless-steel miter scale, with 11 positive stops allows you to lock in the most common angles quickly and, thanks to the cam-lock miter, it's also easy to dial in precise cuts just over or under the positive stop--a feature finish carpenters, in particular, will love. The electric blade stops the blade quickly, which saves time and makes work safer. The saw doesn't have a safety switch--which is fine by us, since some safety switches can be downright dangerous--but it's something to consider if you're doing residential or remodeling work where children might stumble across your tools. --Jon Groebner

4.2 105 5 An Invaluable Tool I have owned and used this saw daily for 3 years and I have never been disappointed. It was specifically purchased for the construction of a 12' x 17' storage shed and was used to cut everything from 2 x 4's and window trim right up to a laminated 4 x 12 beam. Mitre cuts, cross cuts and compound mitres in all materials is a breeze, but invest in the proper blades for the job and keep them sharp (goes without saying but I never cease to be amazed).

My saw is used primarily in a shop environment and mainly as a replacement for a radial arm saw (cross-cuts 8/4 hard maple like a hot knife through soft butter), honestly I cannot imagine working without it. I had heard from other trades that the saw "goes out of adjustment frequently" and I must admit I have had this problem on job sites. The primary issue is the saws weight and awkwardness in moving it around. The four screws used to secure the adjustable platen to the saw base do loosen up with use and just picking this Mother up can effect the saws precision. The good news is it's not a major ordeal to re-set the alignment and a little bit of lock-tite prevents the set screws from wiggling loose. Although the saw can be placed on a work-mate (barely), I would recommend the DeWalt stand (the adjustable material supports alone make it worth the money). And if DeWalt would just put adjustable legs or feet on this stand it would be a perfect solution both in the shop and on-site. Yes the saw throws dust everywhere (which is more of a problem in a client's house than in the shop or outside), but a vacuum hook-up greatly helps and in reality every mitre saw does the same.

Don't be intimidated by the price or the size of the saw and use care when moving it around, you will not regret making this purchase. Highly recommended. 5 Love that Yellow! Because I am not a professional carpenter the price for this tool was always out of my reach and never on sale. Thanks to a Home Depot $100 rebate card deal I finally made the move. It was my first "Dewalt yellow" and this saw has definitely lived up to all my expectations. I just completed a ornate picket fence from scratch and this saw made it almost effortless. Whoever at Dewalt engineered this saw (and stand which is also fabulous)really hit the mark. Since I bought this saw I have also purchased other Dewalt tools and have been very happy.

Question/Answer
1. Is it easy to use.... very
2. is it solid enough to cut big wood like 4x4...definitely
3. Is it accurate.....very
4. Should I get the stand for it....yes
5. Is it worth the money..... yes..every penny
6. Is there anything that could be changed in it's design...I challenge Dewalt to add a laser line retrofit. 5 Great Saw -- Buy it Someplace else This is a great saw, and they've improved the dust collection -- my only complaint with an older model. Buying it from Amazon/toolcrib, however, is a nuisance. Trying to get presales support was useless, with conflicting information or tech people just reading me things from the web site. More importantly, the delivery time they gave me was a window of more than two weeks, and it took nearly 3 weeks to get the thing. AND, it arrived BROKEN. Fortunately, Dewalt is sending me a new one, but clearly someone had dropped this saw along the way since the lockdown pin was bent and the handle housing was broken. I bought from amazon only because they had a (...) when I bought the saw, but the price they quoted changed from day to day on the web site.

5 1 5 very good quality product Used the DW059K cordless impact for rotating tires on a vehicle changing brackets on a farm tractor and screwing lag bolts on a garage door, still have not recharged the battery. Very flexible power tool sure beats starting up the air compresser or plugging in a corded impact wrench. Highly recommend this product and as with all the Dewalt tools that I have purchased the high quality is top notch. This cordless impact will last a long time.

Description : Tired of transporting a bulky miter saw stand from one job site to the next? The DeWalt DW723 may be the answer. Lightweight and rugged, the all-aluminum stand measures a mere 5-1/2 feet out of the box and weighs in at just 38 pounds. However, when fully assembled, it can support boards up to 16 feet long and a full 400 pounds of weight. A carrying handle makes the stand easy to transport when fully retracted. Just throw it in the back of your pickup and it's good to go. Assembly is quick and easy, too. 4.49 61 5 Great for the Homeowner Too !!! I'm an advanced DIY'er homeowner, and I needed a stand to go with my DW708 mitre saw. I just got tired of using makeshift supports for long boards and the extension arms are well designed and work great. When I rec'd the stand, it was dinged up pretty good in the main spine section and on a leg. I needed to call DeWalt directly. In about a week, I had the replacement parts in my hands. All in all, I was very pleased with the service and the stand. 5 More than just a large saw horse. I've have cut my share of board feet while squating in front of my miter saw while it was on the floor. As I get older, this was going from being inconvenient, to a real pain in the back. (Literally!) There was no way to support the ends of the board other than shimming with scrap lumber prior to each cut. I tried mounting it on top of my B&D Workmate, but supporting the ends of the boards became even more of an issue. I knew I wanted a mitersaw stand, but which one?

I liked different features of the different stands I reviewed, like large wheels, heavy construction and additional work supports. Some looked like I could copy their design and weld from square tubular steel. Weight would be a consideration. Combine this with the weight of the saw, it could be over 160 pounds. Getting it into and out of my SUV without trashing my bumper (and my back) would be a trick. Using aluminum rectangular tubing would be lighter, but really pricey! After looking at the others, I decided on the Dewalt 723. I am glad I did! Most of the others come in kit form, the 723 is fully assembled. It folds into a compact package, is relatively light, very sturdy, made from high quality components, and it is one of the most professional looking stands around (especially when mounting a matching Dewalt miter saw on it!).

Most bolts have Allen-wrench heads. Any that are adjusted often (such as the extention arms and supports) have large T-handles. All nuts are the type that have nylon lock-washers to keep from vibrating loose. The saw brackets attach (and detach) quickly from the main beam. There are rubber feet attached to the brackets so the saw can be used alone on a bench (or on the floor...) if desired. The arms will support 99.5% of the lumber I will be chopping without sagging. When I want to throw an 8' 4x12 on the stand, it will require supports (2x2s will do) clamped to the arm, extending down to the ground. Other stands have these extra supports already attached, but are unneccessary for the vast majority of my cuts; and will only add to the weight and complexity of break-down for transport.

By folding down my rear seat of my SUV, I can get the stand to fit with ease. The saw is detached, and placed next to it. I will probably attach a pair of 10" phenumatic wheels to one end for easier protability around a job site. I like the table saw extention the Delta folks have on their stand (model 50-155), and will incorprorate a small extention similar to theirs on the DW723. There are some cheaper stands around, but they were either too heavy (up to 90 lbs for the stand alone!) or too flimsy (for mounting a DW708 12" compound sliding miter saw). The package arrived in fine shape with no damage to the stand.

I highly recommend this stand. Now that I have one, I wonder why I didn't get one sooner. I'll never go back to squating on the floor again. 5 Fast and strong! I have been in the building industry for 25+ years and have been using saw horses and planks for a work table for my Dewalt mitre saw with no complaints. When I first saw their new work station I figured why pay over $[money] to replace something that has been working fine for years? Boy was I wrong! I purchased the work station on line and couldn't wait to use it. I was really surpised how strong it was and how quickly it set up. I really liked the sliding stops that Dewalt designed for this stand. A lot of times I have to cut spindles for pickets the same length and this feature really worked well. It's a compact unit (folded)which allows more room in my truck. The only thing I found that didn't jive with the directions was that the bolts they provided to attach the saw base to the mitre saw needed to be drilled out slightly larger. The directions stated that this wasn't necessary for Dewalt saws. I would highly recommend this station to anyone!

4.14 7 4 Pneumatic or Manual I use this pneumatic stapler on a daily basis. I've also used the pneumatic and manual nailers numerous times. I recommend the pneumatic stapler far beyond all else. It hardly ever jams and it sets the staples into the wood better than the manual. The nailer jams more and is much harder to clear, when it does. More often than anything, if the stapler jams you simply have to pick it up off the wood and tap it on the side of the resevoir. It normally will drop out any broken pieces of staple at that time. It makes life alot easier when you are working on a large floor. 5 Expensive But Worth It. This tool makes laying a hardwood floor almost fun. If you are laying a prefinished floor, I would also recommend the optional foot (MIIIFOOT). I don't see that this is available on Amazon. I purchased mine on eBay. Also, some of the reviews on this item are for the MIIIFS, which is a floor stapler, not a nailer. According to some sources, there are less problems with the wood splitting with the nailer. There seems to be a hot market for these tools on eBay. I plan to resell mine when I am finished with it. 5 Bostitch MIIIFN This air stapler was a life saver. I laid about 1900 square feet in my new house without one misfire. That was just over 20000 staples. The staples held very well and if I had it to do over again, I wouldn't change a thing. This air gun is well worth the money! It took me approximately 18 hours in my spare time to lay the hardwood floor. I am wery satisfied.

Features : Powerful 15 amp motor that handles every job easily. Electronic Speed Control monitors and maintains rpm under load. Soft Start feature for smoother and safer start-ups. Large turn base ensures a more stable work area. 11 positive stops for improved cutting of crown molding.
Description : Makita's LS1212 was already at the top of our 12-inch slider list when we met Makita's newest, with its expanded base and greater cut capacity. Everything we loved about the 1212 carries through on this model: the smooth-as-silk slide action, the dead-on accuracy, relatively quiet operation, user-friendly electric brake and superior stability. But there's more to love on this model, including a 4-1/2" maximum cutting depth and an additional positive stop for bevel cuts at 33.9 degrees left. Those who prefer a horizontal handle might be disappointed with the vertical grip, but if your work crew includes a southpaw, it's really an advantage. The expanded work table is one of the best improvements, and though it does add a little weight, we think it's a great tradeoff. Makita's come up with an innovative pivoting fence that maneuvers easily to support your miter cuts and then moves neatly out of the way for bevel and compound operations. Like the 1212, the 1214 features the sturdy vertical vise for workpiece stability. When you squeeze the paddle trigger, you'll feel virtually no tug thanks to the soft-start mechanism, and we experienced zero vibration. Electronic speed control maintains steady power, whether you're chopping rock maple or pine, something you'll appreciate if you're cutting at the saw's full 12-1/8-inch width capacity. The base turns like a dream, and these detents won't give way to slop even after years of use. Are there any flaws? Cam-lock aficionados will say so, as you still have to turn the old-fashioned screw handle for base adjustments. And someday, we figure Makita will move the bevel lever up front, but frankly, we don't see that as a huge problem. Dust collection is about as good as it gets on a chop saw. As it stands, Makita's got a super-accurate, versatile precision machine here, ideal for the contractor and definitely up to the exacting home woodworker's standards. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste

Features : Drives standard "L" cleats from 1-1/2 to 2 inches Non-marring base will not damage flooring materials Safety trigger prevents accidental firing Balanced design provides better stability, keeping tool upright One year warranty/30 day performance certification
Description : If installing hardwood floors is in your immediate future, the Porter-Cable FCN200 two-inch flooring cleat nailer is a smart tool to consider. The nailer is designed specifically for installing tongue-and-groove hardwood flooring with L-shaped flooring cleats and a thickness of 1/2 to 25/32 inch. The nailer works on 70-100 psi of compressed air and drives cleats with accuracy and force through even the toughest woods, but without damaging even the most delicate pre-finished floor. A 45 degree angled head saves time and frustration. A mallet is included to help position flooring strips prior to nailing them into place. And a rear-load, gravity-fed magazine makes cleat loading fast and easy (though some issues with the last few cleats in the clip have been reported). The tool is solid and stable. Heavy-duty, die-cast construction ensures quality. It also gives the tool a little bulk, but it's still relatively easy to use and well worth the effort.--Carl Thress

4.6 5 5 Porter-Cable FCN200 2" Flooring Cleat Nailer Excellent nailer. I have laid over 1,500 feet of flooring with 2 jambs. It takes about 45 seconds to clear a jamb using the provided tool. Also the last nail in a set from Porter Cable seems to eject about 20% of the time which is not a big deal to me. Tells me to fill up. I let someone who used a hammer nailer use this one and he could not believe how fast and how much more power he got from the floor nailer.
After using for a few days and since the 2 jambs I have not had any additional problems. Senco nails for me are better than the Porter Cable. Senco nails have a glue that keeps them together where as the Porter Cable break like staples in your pocket or pouch. Overall an excellent tool but for $400 plus what do you expect. If you are on the fence over various brands go with Porter Cable. The nails are available locally and the tool performs well. 3 Last cleat symptom I read another review of the last cleat problem. I had several instances where the last cleat damaged the job before I realized what was happening, the tool also "dropped out" as many as four of the last cleats. One set of four got jammed in the mech. and was necessary to disassemble tool.I called the Porter Cable factory they said, "never heard of that problem, the tool should drive the last cleat".They did reccommend that I take it for warranty repair. I examined the pusher mechenism and could see the reason as the pusher does not go completely forward to push cleat against wall of dispenser. The pusher also hangs up at the last four or five cleats because of the latching arrangement causing the cleats to drop out. A visit to my local tool store showed the same conditions on the same model. I am using the tool to install brazilian cherry which is very hard, there is no problem in that respect it drives the cleats home every time and the tool is easy to use. I have been using Porter Cable products for 20 years and never had a problem before. If they re-design the pusher and refit the tool I will give it a 5 star rating. 5 Excellent This is a great must have tool for DIY wood floors. While every company that's in the tool business seems to make a nailer (Senco, Bostitch, etc.), what sets the Porter-Cable apart is it's balance and civilized look. The look doesn't matter, but if you don't want to mar the wood floors by having a tool keel over and damage the floor, then this is the tool to get.

The "last nail" comment is a very true. If you try to drive that single last nail, unpredictable results may occur. In my case, I had to throw the piece away (actually cut it for the closet), since the last nail went in almpst parallel to the surface of the wood and skimmed the finish off the top. If the wood hadn't been there, it probably would have shot across the room.

Finally, although the pneumatic nailers save you from backbreaking hammering, the nose takes more than just a light tap. A slightly sharp wack will drive the nails perfectly. Too soft and the nails don't get driven all the way. Too hard, and I'd be afraid that the tool would get damaged.

Highly recommended.
