I never played this game before. I have played XBox 360 games like Halo 3, and MMO's like Final Fantasy XI, Everquest 2, and World of Warcraft, which all three I stopped playing (I won't say why here, but generally speaking, they will probably destroy your career, college, or family/friends, if you play too much of these MMO's.. They get too addictive for my taste, even though I might continue in the future but I'm going to try to stop though, but who knows, I might be unsuccessful.. But anyways, I'll continue on). I have also played Heroes of Might and Magic as well (really long time ago: they are really old games). I have never even heard of King's Bounty, or Played it, but as I was browsing the Amazon site for games, I came across King's Bounty: Legends, and upon reading the reviews, I decided to buy the game download (although I can't seem to find the game in the downloadable games anymore on the shopping site, but maybe it's because I already bought it as a downloadable game; I don't really know). Boy, Amazon reviews are the best! There's nothing like Amazon reviews! Boy, was I surprised at how good the game was! It's one of the best games I ever played (even though I only got through maybe I don't know really 25-30% of it so far: specifically, the Kordar region or somewhere beyond.. But I have spent like over at least 40 hours playing it and yes it is Very addictive, I couldn't put it down. I played straight for like a few days at least.)
Well, I'm not going to describe the game so much (I'm sure the other reviews do a good job at describing it), so I won't rehash the same stuff, but I wanted to say a few things on my mind.
First off, I have a desktop 64 bit computer, with 8 gb ram and a pretty good video card, and I downloaded it first to this computer. I prefer to play games on this one for I know my computer (even though I bought it some time ago), can still play games well enough. It didn't work on this computer. I don't know why, but there were compatibility problems.. I was puzzled, and after trying to troubleshoot it, I gave up and decided to use my notebook computer (32 bit), which was not as high powered: it has only like 2 gb ram, and a "standard" video card, which is not good if you are a gamer.. Anyways, I decided to download on this notebook, and the game worked. At first, the game ran fine, there was nothing wrong, but I noticed when I tried to turn the camera around on this notebook pc that had lower capabilities, that as the world turned around doing this that it turned around in a choppy manner. I thought this odd, so I lowered the graphics to lower quality under options until I tweeked it enough so that the game was 100% smooth when changing camera angle views.
Needless to say, this is a very great game!! I loved it! I hear a lot of references in other reviews that this game is somehow related to Heroes of might and magic. Well, I played that game too when I was younger (like maybe 10 years ago?..) and I don't really know why there's a comparison without the emphasis, to be frank about it, on the differences between the games. The only similarity I find between the games is that the battle screen looks similar. They both have creatures and your hero controls them, and your hero can cast spells. But honestly, I really feel this is where the similarities end. These are two different games. To put it in a different way, I will just describe it thus: They are more different games than similar games. Anyways..
And on another note: I imagine people have their own opinions on which games they like; so they can disagree with me on my opinion, but I'm here to say: To me, this game is better than Heroes of Might and Magic hands down I say. Why? Well, for starters, HoMM (Heroes of Might and Magic) is time based. Yeah it is turn based, but if you don't hurry like the wind then you will lose. The longer you take your time fiddling around with your hero and his castle, at the same time, your enemy just keeps getter bigger and badder. Wait long enough, to make a long story short, and the enemy will make your hero into a pancake!! In addition, in HoMM the neutral armies that randomly spawn in the map get stronger and stronger as well, and if you wait long enough with your hero, they will have a sign underneath the creatures which signify how much of them there are: they will say "Legion" which is translated to like a crazy insane amount of creatures like 10,000 a stack (when your hero probably only has like 100 a stack if he's uber powerful - of course, if you don't take your time this won't happen, but if you wait long enough, it eventually will... not that it will if you play like you are in a hurry, so maybe you won't see it.. but I've seen it happen before on like the really hard ending scenarios, where "reload" is your friend if you mess things up bad enough.. (But again, I want to reiterate: when I played HoMM 10 years ago I thoroughly enjoyed it. At that time at least - 10 years ago - it was one of the best games I played. So HoMM is a great game: I don't mean to cause a misunderstanding here, I thoroughly enjoyed it when I played it 10 years ago...)
In addition, there is a story and quests to do in King's Bounty, which is virtually non-existent (compared to King's Bounty) in HoMM. HoMM is a great game (don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed it in the past). HoMM reminds me of more a hack and slash game compared to King's Bounty. In King's Bounty, as you progress through the story, you get to talk to NPC's (non player characters) in the game, and you will go through dialogue choices where you get to pick how you answer your npc people. So you are talking with the characters in the game. And it continues in a story as you complete quests. In HoMM, you fight one battle, fight another, fight another, until you conquer all the enemy towns/castles: there's nothing other than that. Sure there's a "campaign" version in HoMM, but really, the objective is still conquer all the enemy castles. Well, anyways..
In addition, King's Bounty has a what I call a "character upgrade tree" where you can put points into certain upgrade paths as you level up, of which there are three: might, mind, and magic. If anyone has played World of Warcraft, this is the general concept, as well as Everquest 2. But in HoMM there is no "character upgrade tree", but gain for all intents and purposes new spells and stuff as you level up, and in King's Bounty, you also can get new spells as well in your spellbook.. Anyways..
I really like King's Bounty: Legend. And even though I played it on my notebook pc that had lower capabilities than my desktop pc, it was thoroughly enjoyable to me. I really liked it very much! Considering that today's games at this very time at present, are very graphics based, and try to "wow" the gamer with superior graphics when they make the game, the superior graphics and the new technology is only half of the reason why I play a game; the other half of the reason I play a game is because It Is a Good Game. And this is where King's Bounty: Legend really shines. It is a good game. As of playing it on my notebook pc, the graphics are not "wow" material if you are a 'next generation video game hardcore player', but to me I'm thinking that King's Bounty is refreshing in that it is a game that focuses on game quality more than game graphics. That is, it won me over entirely on how good the game was, not because of the graphics. To me, if a game has awesome mind blowing graphics but nothing else in terms of a deeper or good game then it had failed to make me have a really fun time playing the game.
Well, I've written enough already, so I will stop typing. In addition, my brain is falling out because of reasons I won't go into.. Thanks Amazon! and reviewers together! for helping me find a great game!
