After only 3 or 4 plays the CD has several places on several songs where the sound skips or is inaudible. The DVD seems to be fine. It is disappointing becasue the CD & DVD is certainly a great value.

Maxwell is truly grown and sexy!Although I have been a fan of Maxwell's for a long time, I actually put him&every other artist,on the backburner for a while. When this CD came out, Michael had just passed away. I was so griefed and devastated. I only listened to Michael Jackson or J5 music for a while. When I was ready to listen to some other music, I got this CD. All can say is Wow! And I am happy that Maxwell is finally getting his due with the Grammy's and awards. He earned them. He should have gotten them sooner. I love the new haircut! Looks very handsome, sexy and sort like a young Harry Belafonte. I recently saw him and Jill scott this month in Dallas. I had never seen him in concert before. Saw Jill several times. It was the best concert I had ever been to! He puts a lot of energy into his concerts and really a great showstopper. The first 3 songs, I couldn't hear him due to all the blood curling screams. It was crazy for a minute!I paid out over $300 for floor seats. It was worth every dime! And I will go back to see him over and over! I also got all his 3 prior CDS. I am listening to each one day by day. They are all great! Thank you Mr.Rivera. Thank you for bringing us real R&B, Class&sexiness. Thanks for having high respect for women, in particular black women.Thank you! Completely overlooked are unheralded B-sides such as "Oh Woman, Oh Why," "Little Woman Love," "Country Dreamer," "The Mess," "Walking in the Park with Eloise," "Sally G," and "Girl's School"--some of McCartney the bandleader and solo artist's scrappiest and most interesting work. Many people think mediocrity is the worst sin art can commit, because mediocrity equals boredom. Art that fails spectacularly can at least be interesting, or at best, transcendent. However, I'm here to argue that consciously achieving mediocrity can be the bravest artistic statement one can make. Let me explain: disappointing someone out of laziness is thoughtless. Disappointing someone on purpose is a radical act. It's like when you've already established yourself as a great lover, but one day when you're going South on a lovely female who knows your rep and you're working your magic with your fingers, tongue, and lips and your building her up to "conclusion" and at the point where you know she's going to reach the point of no turning back, you move North, lick her elbow for two minutes, and then leave to get a Twinkie. She's frustrated and angry, but intrigued by everything leading up to the elbow licking, remembering the past, remember the potential for transcendent explosion. Does she throw your number on the scrapheap? No way. She'll call you again. Of course, you need to deliver the magic every once in a while ... but with this kind of push and pull, you can string her along for years. Even after she says "never again". Even after she's "happily" married with kids. Why is this? Well, if you know anything about keeping a lady interested (who are the most fickle, simple-minded creatures on God's Earth), you'd know that you can't make the Earth move every time you're with a lady. She'll take you for granted and get bored with you. You have to deliver the goods, give her a taste, and then bacdafucup and watch her brain turn to scrambled eggs.

I know, what does this have to do with "Wingspan"? Well, Paul McCartney is the ultimate elbow licker, a once brilliant songwriter with the Beatles, riding the coattails of his most spectacular success with a series of not-so- good songs that also happened to sell phenomenally well. You see, Americans bought those Wings single by the truckload, not because they were good, but because McCartney was once a spectacular artist and buying them reminded them of the time he made the Earth move. Every time they heard a song, they thought, "OK, I think I can make this work." But McCartney knew that in order to ensure his artistic legacy, he had to pump out purposely mediocre music in order to remain even more popular. The fact that this collection does not include "Spies Like Us," arguably the worst song in McCartney's oeuvre, just proves my point. With all the mediocre product on this 2-disc collection, you'd expect it to be there, but it's not. You see? McCartney has mastered the art of disappointment even when cataloging his disappointments in one convenient package. Even here, not so convenient, is it? Which, of course, has only made his artistic stature stronger. As a statement, this makes Lou Reed's "Metal Machine Music" look like .38 Special. C'mon, everyone join hands and sing "HAAAAANDS across the water ... (water) ... HAAAAANDS across the sea!"

I am 50 years old, and my wife and I have 2 kids, ages 16 and 18. This particular album has the singular and unique characteristic of having been played (and loved) by my parents while I was growing up, by my wife's parents while she was growing up (in an entirely different part of the world), by us (now) as our kids have grown up, AND by my 2 kids themselves (it resides on their iPods, through no coaxing on our part, right next to all the rest of their music). And don't think that we're singularly "into" this type of music -- on the contrary, I can think of no other album of this particular style that we own. Our music collection ranges from classical to punk rock, from Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin to Mozart to The Who to Bach to Alison Krauss to Enya to Miles Davis. And then there's this unique gem of a CD. It's really amazing -- despite a certain level of kitchiness unavoidable in the so-called "easy listening" music of its era, there's an inexplicable quality to these songs, arrangements, and performances that make it truly a universal and addictively enjoyable set of music. I have no doubt that when my kids leave the house and get married, it'll get played in their households for their kids, etc, etc. Buy this. Just do it.

The music on this series was beautiful. I just dont think that this CD was mixed very well. Some of it is terrific other parts are painful to listen to. Why they chose some of the selections I do not know. About half of the songs I dearly love the others i have to skip over. Why did they merge Dixie with the Bonnie Blue flag? Why are there two instrumental Marching through Georgias but none with Lyrics? I would have also liked to have heard a lyrical Battle Cry of Freedom. Overall I was disappointed when I remembered how well the Civil War series was scored-it just does not come accross well on this CD.
