I did not buy this from Amazon. I bought it on sale from William Sonoma for $99. I had to drive out of state to buy a display model to get it. Having owned it for two weeks, knowing what I know. I would have paid double for this, if I had to. In two weeks, I made about 12 batches of gelato and all of them were great. I made gelatos in many different ways... few batches using store bough mix, several following recipes exactly, several deviating from the recipe (reduce sugar) and several I totally made up because I have over ripe bananas or just wanted to experiment. They all turned out great. Recipes are very forgiving. It is not like baking. Make the mix and if it tastes good, it will make good gelato. My wife said "You rock and you suck at same time" since she is concerned about me turning out gelatos she can't resist. Her favorite so far is lemon gelato. I seriously doubt stores use freshly grated lemon peel and freshly squeezed lemon juice. For that reason, I think it taste much better than store bought.
Few minor flaws.. Liquid can drip into certain area and can be very difficult to clean it out. Also, one batch was left on little too long and got hard and the plastic paddle that was supposed to scrape the bowl wall was bent. It sprung back later but I can see the paddle gradually getting bent and not scraping the freezer bowl like it is supposed to. I may just order replacement paddle in advance. Scooping out the gelato is kind of pain and messy mainly because of the paddle. I did not have problems with freezer bowl sticking because I made sure there were no liquid there to begin with. As long as you keep it dry, no need to mess with alcohol like they suggest.
With ice cream price being what they are in stores (Gelatos, if you can find them, are more expensive) I think this was a great purchase, especially at $99.
